Carnival, Fasching and Carnevale: from Venice to Rio
Before Lent, many places celebrate one last time with Fasching, Fastnacht, Fasnet, carnival or carnevale. The customs differ widely, but the love of costume and noise connects them.
Fasnet in Baden-Württemberg
In the Swabian-Alemannic region the fool’s season is called Fasnet. Typical are parades in traditional wooden masks and costumes, processions and nightshirt gatherings. The date depends on Easter, and the “fifth season” ends on Ash Wednesday.
Carnevale in Italy
Best known is the Carnival of Venice with its elaborate masks and costumes, and that of Viareggio with its huge parade floats. With it comes fried pastry dusted with icing sugar, called chiacchiere, frappe or bugie depending on the region.
Carnival in Rio
Carnival in Rio de Janeiro draws crowds with samba schools, drums and parades in the Sambadrome. It is one of the largest street festivals in the world and is celebrated in its own style in many Brazilian cities.
Carnival at L'Antica
Around Carnival, the design of our website puts on a festive look. At L'Antica Pizzeria Napoletana in Stuttgart you can enjoy Neapolitan pizza and fresh pasta. Want to drop by? Reserve a table or view the menu first.
